Frequently Asked Dental Questions – Denton, TX

Answering Your Questions, Offering Greater Clarity

At Southridge Dental Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, we never want our dental patients to feel unsure or “left in the dark” when it comes to dentistry treatment. This is why we are committed to providing clear, concise, and honest answers to some of the most frequently asked questions. If you don’t see yours listed, contact our dental office to schedule an appointment.

Will you see my children and grandparents?

Yes! We love families and see many of them. Our services are diverse, so we offer dentures for our older patients, as well as sealants for our youngest patients. Call to schedule comprehensive initial exams for everyone in your family – because their smiles are invaluable family assets!

What can you do to help me relax?

Our friendly atmosphere and attentive staff are often enough to put patients at ease, but for patients who need additional help, Dr. Dunson is certified in oral conscious sedation. This moderate sedative is taken in pill form and has helped millions of patients overcome their dental fear. Oral conscious sedation can also be used for patients who need several treatments performed in a limited time frame, those with a sensitive gag reflex, and patients who have trouble resting comfortably in a dental chair. Visit our dental office for a consultation to learn if sedation dentistry is right for you.

How can I straighten my teeth without braces?

Porcelain veneers (also called instant orthodontics) can mask misalignments, stains, chips, and breaks in just two visits. Dr. Dunson expertly designs porcelain veneers according to your vision for an ideal smile and places them in a second appointment. As one of the most popular cosmetic dentistry procedures available today, porcelain veneers have given millions of people the smiles of their dreams without the hassle of traditional braces.

What are dental implants and how long do they last?

Dental implants are a safe alternative to bridges, partials, or full dentures. They look, feel, and function like natural teeth because of a titanium anchor placed in the jawbone. Dr. Dunson places the anchor and then attaches a handcrafted, permanent crown to each post. He can also secure a bridge or denture with a few strategically placed implants. The restorations will match your natural teeth and blend seamlessly with your smile. The life of the implant depends on your age, oral status, and personal hygiene. With proper maintenance, they last most people a lifetime.

Do you refer dental patients to specialists?

Dr. Dunson has taken extensive postgraduate coursework and has over ten years of hands-on experience in services ranging from extractions to root canals to implant placement. He often performs all phases of care in our dental office, without referring to other doctors. However, when a specialist would better serve you, we’ll refer you. We refer to only trusted professionals with whom we have a good rapport.

Will you accept my dental insurance?

We accept most dental insurance, as long as your provider allows you to choose your healthcare provider. Simply call or bring your insurance card to our dental office to learn if your plan will allow you to see Dr. Dunson. As a courtesy to our patients, we file insurance and will accept your copay or deductible at the time of service.
